UPDATE: African-born actor Edi Gathegi (right), who played vampire Laurent in the first two Twilight movies, will play mutant Darwin in X-Men: First Class. Darwin's power is reactive evolution, meaning his body physically changes to the situation (kind of like a chameleon changes color).

July 16, 2010 --Kevin Bacon (Footloose, My Dog Skip, pictured left) will be the main villain in X-Men: First Class although Fox is keeping mum on which villain he'll play...speculation is hot that he'll be Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence ("The Bill Engvall Show") will play the young Mystique, the role Rebecca Romijn's role. Lawrence grabbed the attention of Hollywood with her phenomenal performance in the R-rated indie Winter's Bone.

July 9, 2010 -- The origin X-Men film X-Men: First Class has identified two more young mutants. 20-year old Texan Caleb Landry Jones ("Friday Night Lights"/The Longshots) will play Banshee a.k.a. Sean Cassidy. The Irish mutant can fly and emit shrieks that damage hearing and create sonic vibrations. 20-year old Brit Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy and he played "Eusebios" in Clash of the Titans, pictured right), has been cast as the young version of Beast a.k.a. Hank McCoy who has superhuman strength and agility. Beast was played by Kelsey Grammer in previous X-Men movies.

Fun fact: Landry Jones and Hoult were born on the same day - Dec. 7, 1989.

With Brit Matthew Vaughn directing, the X-Men First Class cast has been primarily British so far (James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike) so it's a little funny that Vaughn cast an American actor to play the mutant who is supposed to be FROM the U.K.
